Things to thinks about
I know everyone is tired of hearing the words “unprecedented” and “2020” together. So I’m going to say that this last year was…extremely unordinary. And it’s probably safe to say that many of us are eager to put 2020 in the rearview mirror.
The coronavirus pandemic took a toll on every aspect of our lives—including, and in some cases especially, the way we work and what our job searches look like. And while we’re starting to see glimmers of light at the end of the tunnel, there are still a lot of variables that could affect the economy (namely the vaccine timeline, a potential COVID relief bill, and a new presidential administration). So it looks like the early months of 2021 are going to be a little uncertain. And we’ll probably be feeling the ripple effects of 2020 for a while.
If you’re one of the many people who’s currently looking for a new job or planning to start a job search soon, here’s what you need to know about finding a job in 2021.
- Your salary
- Benefits – Health care, vision, dental, retirement
- How long has the business been around
- Permanent or temporary position
- Turnover on position job applying for
Other focus Points
Online networking on social media and video communication tools such as Skype and Zoom have been growing for years, long before the pandemic. In fact, the internet is often the most efficient way to conduct job searches even during normal times. When it’s difficult to travel and meet people in person, however, it’s even more important to build your online presence and make sure you have the skills and tools you need.
Be unique and yourself
It may not be easy to find a job right now, but it’s definitely possible. Create a custom plan based on your goals and skills. Focus on what is possible right now, such as applying for jobs in industries that are currently hiring. At the same time, boost your networking efforts, and think about new skills you can add to your toolbox.
